The Woods, Breathing

The title of this piece, made as part of Holocaust Memorial Day in 2009, comes from the diary of Adam Czerniakow, written in Warsaw, Poland during the Nazi Occupation. The words displayed in the installation were taken from two books; one, Czerniakow’s diary, the other a book he describes reading on the night of January 19th 1940 called ‘Pilgrims of the Wild’.
